£630m boost for public building energy upgrades

DESNZ has announced funding for schools, community centres and care homes to receive upgrade to their buildings and make them more energy efficient.

The £630 million has been awarded for measures including heat pumps, solar panels, insulation and double glazing, as is expected to pay back the investment within 12 years due to lower energy costs.

Minister for Energy Consumers Miatta Fahnbulleh said: “Today we are providing even more support for Britain’s buildings, from schools to museums and galleries, helping to rebuild vital public services as part of the Plan for Change.”

The announcement follows Great British Energy’s first major project to put solar panels on around 200 schools and 200 NHS sites.
