Insuring smaller renewables

Insurer Aon has launched of its Global Onshore Renewables Facility, an insurance solution for the growing investment in renewable energy infrastructure.

Developed by Aon's Global Broking Centre in London, the facility brings together dedicated insurer capacity for onshore wind, solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects valued up to $300m, helping developers, owners and contractors access coverage more efficiently throughout the project lifecycle.

With the energy transition investment projected to reach a $2.2tr in 2026, developers and investors face increasing pressure to deliver projects efficiently while navigating evolving risk and insurance requirements. Smaller and mid-sized renewable energy projects in particular have faced challenges accessing insurance.

“The transition to a lower-carbon economy is transforming how organisations invest in and develop renewable energy infrastructure around the world,” said Helene Madell, CEO, Global Broking Centre, Aon. “As demand for renewable energy projects continues to grow, clients need solutions that help them manage risk, deploy capital efficiently and build resilience across their investments.”
