Battery installations surge

Domestic storage batteries have surged, with MCS certified installation showing that in the first quarter of 2026 there were 13,634 installations.

The figures, released by DESNZ, show that a capacity of 129MWh was added in the period. This is a 75 per cent increase over the same period last year, and in the region of 84 per cent increase in capacity.

Driven by solar installations, EV adoption, falling prices of batteries, regulation, fears of the current energy price volatility and increasingly sophisticated and available off-peak charging options, the figures point to a raising awareness of the advantages of on-site storage, and also a potential for a more distributed energy network.
