Forging heat pumps into air-cons

A new British engineered air-con add-on for existing Octopus heat pumps can be fitted in around three hours, without major building work, and will cost around £500.

The outdoor heat pump takes in warm air from outside, using it to chill water and pump it through the home's central heating pipes. The unit inside also draws in warm indoor air, cools it across a built-in heat exchanger, and quietly circulates chilled air into the room.

The Cosy Cooler is the size of a tall kitchen bin and plugs directly into radiator pipework to circulate chilled water through the home. The unit can cool single rooms or run up to two to three units at once across different rooms, depending on the Cosy heat pump model.

Home and office trials are currently in progress.
