SSE’s first onshore wind farm in the country means the wind farm is delivering under the long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) signed with Microsoft in 2024.
The start of commercial operations at the five-turbine combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva (17.3MW) wind farm in Puglia marks the delivery of SSE’s first operational renewable energy asset in Italy, as the company continues to advance a secured pipeline of more than 600MW of onshore wind developments in the country.
The company's operational onshore wind capacity in the region now stands at 109MW, with a further 55MW under construction across three sites in Spain and Italy, including a 10MW wind farm project currently under construction in Puglia.
Colin Spain, director of PPAs at SSE Renewables, said: “We’re delighted to have reached commercial operations on our first onshore wind farm in Italy, the combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva wind farm in Puglia. Since construction began in 2025, our teams and contractors have worked safely and expertly to bring new renewable electricity capacity online. It also demonstrates SSE's role in supporting the growth of wind energy in Italy, one of SSE’s key growth markets in Southern Europe.”
