UK greenhouse gas emissions resulting from electricity production rose 2.8 per cent in 2025, according to Montel as published in The Telegraph.
Lack of grid connections have been fingered as the main culprit, with the well-known result of turbines having to be switched off and gas fired stations being used to make up the difference.
The figures show the issues with the current Grid and constraints of the current compensation system.
The figures are also difficult to be agreed on because electricity generated overseas, and supplied via connectors, is zero-rated for carbon however actually produced, creating a carbon-offshoring effect.
