Vattenfall proposes 485MW of onshore

Vattenfall has revealed plans to develop two new onshore wind farms in East Anglia and is exploring proposals for a new onshore wind farm of up to eight turbines in the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

If approved, Chatteris Wind Farm, to the south of Chatteris, could generate up to 126MW, while Redmere Wind Farm, near Shippea Hill, could generate up to 303MW. The Adlingfleet Wind Farm project has the potential of generating 56MW.

The Adlingfleet Wind Farm project is at an early stage, and no final turbine layout has been decided, but environmental and technical studies will examine issues including landscape and visual effects, ecology, birds, flood risk, noise, traffic and aviation. Their findings, alongside feedback from local communities and other stakeholders, will inform the design. Vattenfall submitted a Scoping Report to East Riding of Yorkshire Council and North Lincolnshire Council in September 2026 that sets out the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment.

Robin Stewart, project manager at Vattenfall, said: “Chatteris and Redmere could play an important role in the UK’s energy future while also offering local jobs, economic investment, and environmental regeneration.”

Drop-in events are being held with communities this month and further events will follow in 2027, when more detailed design information, including visualisations from local viewpoints will be available.

Of Adlingfleet, Steward added: “The project is at an early stage, and environmental evidence and local feedback will help us develop the most appropriate design for the site.”

For the Adlingfleet Wind Farm project the current expectation is that planning applications will be submitted to the two local planning authorities in autumn 2027. If permission is granted, construction is expected to begin in the early 2030s.
