The Prime Minister has recommitted to the 2050 target to reach net-zero.

Burnham, as reported by The Guardian, stated that he had “long seen the green transition as the best chance we will ever have to reindustrialise Britain”.

As the Government announced its plans, through Great British Energy, to accelerate local government and community clean energy production with an initial £30m of funding, he said: “I am determined that we meet the commitment on which Labour was elected and reach net-zero by 2050.”

A cynic might point out that with the Holborn and St Pancras by-election looming, kindly presented as a joining gift by ex-Prime Minster Starmer, the current Prime Minister might need to underline his green credentials. But I am not such a cynic. Likewise, the decision to the put off the decision on the Jackdaw gas field is surely a diary scheduling issue.
