DESNZ has published its quarterly heat pump installation data, showing that the total number of retrofit heat pumps installed in Q1 2026 was 18 per cent lower quarter on quarter, and 22 per cent lower year on year.

In the first quarter of 2025, 13,749 retrofit heat pumps were installed (the vast majority air sourced, with only 62 being ground sourced), but in the first quarter of 2026, only 10,693 of all types were installed.

Swetta Coopamah, head of smart energy systems at BEAMA commented: "A fall of 22 per cent year on year in retrofit heat pump installations is a reminder that growth cannot be taken for granted. The focus now should be on giving manufacturers and consumers the confidence needed to accelerate long-term adoption.”
