The Government plans to make plug in solar panels legal from 27 August with retailers such as for Amazon, Lidl and Currys lined up to sell the products.

Without any fanfare, the Government has revealed that 27 August 27 will mark the start of retailers being able to sell in plug in solar products, the confirmation being somewhat hidden amongst an amended and excitingly named ‘The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 and Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 (Amendment) Regulations 2026'.

With an output capped at 800W plug-in panels are estimated to be able to save around £70-£110 a year on energy bills, and require no specialist installation.
