The UK is experiencing a solar boom in the hot summers as a new record monthly generation record was created last year.

In July 2025, solar energy output climbed to 14.4 per cent of the UK's electricity mix, with 1,622 hours in 2025, with a peak on 8 July 2025, when Great Britain recorded a solar generation of 14GW, and supplied 40 per cent of national electricity demand at that moment.

The figures, from Neso, already showed the progress of solar, showing that solar energy contributed to reducing the carbon intensity of electricity in the UK, reaching 126 grammes of carbon per kWh in 2024, down from 444g/kWh in 2009. The new figures are likely to show further improvement.

Total generation and peak outputs continue to set records annually, and the pipeline of new projects is certain to set new records again.
