Quarter of new builds have heat pumps

Heat pumps installations have continued to climb in second-best March ever, with almost a quarter of new builds having a heat pump installed in March according to Ambient.

Ambient’s Electrified Heat Transition Tracker also confirms that heat pump demand rising, not flatlining, and growing at 21per cent year-on-year, with record BUS voucher applications in March.

With planning restrictions on ASHPs easing and the Future Homes Standard on the horizon, new build installation rates could also climb higher in 2025.

The Future Homes Standard is announced this year, with mandatory compliance beginning in 2027, another 750,000 homes could be built with low carbon electric heating in this parliament, avoiding 1,179 tonnes of NOx and reducing fossil fuel dependency, increasing energy security and creating a healthier environment, as gas boilers now being the biggest contributor to air pollution in central London
