Commercial property consultancy Vail Williams has produced its Climate Risk Assessment, finding that 74 per cent of UK businesses have yet to assess how climate change might affect their operations.
Only around 28 per cent showed ant real concern for climate change. Moreover, even companies that have considered the risks are unlikely to have taken action, with only 15 per cent reinforcing supply chains, 9 per cent rising temperature, and 6 per cent flood risk.
This will leave a vast majority of business potentially facing issues along the line, or at the very least, much higher insurance premiums.
Climate related damage to operations already affects 16 per cent of businesses annually, with flooding, storms, and heatwaves causing infrastructure damage, employee absence, and supply chain issues, and insurers paid £585m for weather-related damages in 2024, with £102m for business losses in just one quarter.
