Data published by DESNZ shows that in the last six months electricity prices have continued to be far higher than competitor economies.
Based on figures from Eurostat, non-domestic electricity prices in the period July - December 2025 showed that the average non-domestic electricity prices (including taxes and levies) in the last six months of 2025 were highest in the UK compared with the EU14 plus UK. Finland had the lowest non-domestic electricity prices overall, with the UK over three times as expensive than that country, a third higher than France and two-thirds higher than the median.
Comparing UK and EU14 non-domestic gas prices in the last six months of 2025, the UK had prices that fell in the middle of the range of EU14 plus UK average prices including taxes and levies, with the UK’s price.
The continuing high prices are likely to increase calls to shift the costs of grid upgrades and renewable infrastructure from billings to general taxation and reduce electricity prices to encourage further electrification.
