EV grant on a comeback tour?

The Government is reportedly mulling over £700m of incentives for the drivers to step into EVs.

Despite a general trend upwards, the uptake of EVs is not happening at a rate needed to meet targets, and so the Government is considering options to fund a boost to sales.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander told the BBC that the Government wants to make it cheaper for people to buy an electric car, but could not confirm whether that would be in the form of grants or other forms of subsidies. Indeed, part of the funds could be diverted to charging infrastructure.

Alexander said that greater detail and announcements would come soon, but refused to give concrete deadlines or proposals (so no change there).

Of course, “cheaper” could be a relative erm, meaning a carrot and stick approach making ICE vehicles more expensive at the same time – guess we shall see.
