European solar surges

In its European electricity market summary for Q2 2025 (April to June) Montel reports that there are increasing negative prices resulting from renewable buildout, as well as a lack of storage and flexible demand to absorb renewable surpluses.

Over the period there was a record of solar generation, and a record low coal/lignite generation, with the total solar outturn for the quarter at 104.4TWh, the highest quarterly total on record.
