Frontier to pay Reverion $41m for carbon removal

Frontier, founded by companies including Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta and McKinsey will pay Reverion $41m to remove 96,000 tons of carnon between 2027 and 2030.

Frontier is an advance market commitment (AMC) that purchases from high-potential carbon removal companies on behalf of buyers.

Frontier has facilitated offtake agreements with Reverion, a German company that captures and permanently stores carbon from biogas while generating clean electricity through solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Reverion’s technology captures carbon from both the methane and biogas, effectively doubling removal compared to conventional approaches, and while generating clean electricity.

The process achieves 74 per cent fuel-to-electricity conversion efficiency, among the highest in electricity generation globally.

The deal represents a significant boost for the German company, and allows it to potentially scale up globally.
