Heat pump market grows, but…

Following the figures for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), Ambient’s Electrified Heat Transition Tracker (EHTT) report reveals the opportunities and missed opportunities associated with heating electrification.

With 4,949 MCS accredited installations in the month of February, one highlight is that UK heat pumps kept users warm during -10C winter, with the Heat Pump Monitor showing that heat pumps kept users warm with an average of 19.2C indoor temperature throughout cold spikes. Annual carbon saving are now at 10,400 tonnes.

On the other hand, the Future Homes Standard delays come at a significant cost with approximately 825,000 homes built since the first Future Homes Standard consultation in 2019 being reliant on gas, which will create a retrofit bill of nearly £10bn.Currently only 22 pert cent of new builds use heat pumps.

George Stone, policy officer for Ambient, said: The trajectory of the electrified heating market continues upwards, but getting the policy in motion is key to avoid future bottlenecks. Implementation of the Future Homes Standard and careful evaluation of the Clean Heat Market Mechanism will help the market to scale so we can take advantage of the clear benefits heat electrification brings, both to households and to public health.”
