Be.EV has opened its new Manchester Charging Oasis site with a 1p/kWh deal on Saturday 21 June.
Built over an abandoned petrol station the new charging hub now has twelve 300kW ultra-rapid chargers and a Caffè Nero Express. Visitors to the launch event on 21st June will also get a free coffee or hot drink from Caffè Nero, as well as a free ice cream.
It is estimated that there are1,250 registered EVs in the area and 26,000 commuters who pass by the site every day, and the developers are banking that has EV use picks up this ‘Northern Gateway’ will be the favoured location for charging in the area with over 150,000 EVs set to be on Manchester’s roads by 2038.
The sustainable credentials also include a top layer of tarmac made from recycled tyres, as well as solar panels and recycled bricks as part of the Caffè Nero Express. Recycled water from drainage is also being used in the store’s and the wildflower garden and trees on site will also generate a net biodiversity gain of 21.2 per cent. Only local suppliers in its construction.
Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, said: “This site will change ultra-rapid public charging forever. It’s been designed to give drivers exactly what they want, not only amenities to give them a break from driving, but also trees, wildflowers and nature that makes drivers excited to come here and charge.”
Be.EV operates a network of over 800 live charging bays across the UK, with plans to reach 1,600 by the end of 2025. It is backed by £110m from Octopus Energy Generation, the majority shareholder, and a further £55m from lenders NatWest and KfW IPEX-Bank.
