NESO offers connection to over half of projects

The National Energy System Operator (NESO), working with Energy Networks Association (ENA) and network operators, has confirmed more than half (58 per cent) of connection offers for transmission and distribution projects in the 2030 pipeline have now been issued.

The connection offers to ready-to-go energy projects, including offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery storage and hydro, amount to 37GW of new electricity capacity, supporting the energy generation and storage expansion required to deliver the government’s clean energy goals.

So far, 713 of the 1,223 projects in the up to 2030 pipeline have received offers. The offers set out when and where projects can connect, and what enabling upgrades are needed on the transmission and distribution networks.

Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: "Upgrading the grid and making it easier for clean power projects to connect to it will help protect billpayers from fossil fuel price spikes. This milestone is a landmark step in putting connections reform into action, with offers issued to over 700 shovel-ready projects that will help to bring down bills for good with clean energy that we control.”
