It’s been a busy few weeks for Rolls-Royce. Not only with the promised defenced spending increase and the final granting of the SMT contract, but also it has been awarded an order to supply a second large-scale battery storage system to Zeewolde in the Netherlands.
Energy infrastructure developer Eleqtis has commissioned Rolls-Royce to supply, install and maintain the system, which will have a power output of 35.1MW and a capacity of 144.4MWh, storing electricity generated by the local wind farm and feeding it back into the grid as needed. The contract also includes a ten-year maintenance agreement, which guarantees the system's capacity throughout the entire term. The facility is designed for grid-critical services such as frequency regulation, peak shaving and short-term trading.
In Autumn 2025, the first mtu large-scale battery storage facility, Battery Park Zeewolde (BPZ), will go into operation, for which Rolls-Royce has also been commissioned. Rolls-Royce has now delivered mtu battery storage solutions for over 200 projects worldwide.
