Wind output reached 29.2TWh in first three months of 2026, supported by storm activity in January and making wind the largest renewable source in Great Britain.
Montel EnAppSys also reported that National Balancing Point (NBP) gas prices rose from £25.9/MWh at the start of January to a quarterly high of GBP 52.6/MWh in March following geopolitical disruption.
Overall, renewables accounted for 40.3TWh and gas generation 22.5TWh, with renewables gaining a 52 per cent share of generation.
The renewable output rose to 40.3Wh, up from 33.7 TWh in Q12025, led by stronger wind generation, and potentially could have been higher if Grid capacity had allowed.
However, prices ‘surged’ during colder periods when demand increased and renewable output fell.
