The Lab hits $5bn

The Lab’s portfolio has reached a value of $5bn, demonstrating scalable climate finance solutions for emerging markets.

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (AKA the Lab) portfolio has surpassed $5bn of capital for climate action across emerging markets. It includes more than $1.5bn in investment from institutions within the Lab network and nearly $1.9bn in private finance, representing commitments from more than 150 public and private investors.

Since its launch, the Lab has supported the development of 87 climate finance solutions across emerging markets and developing economies. One main sector in in cooling solutions.

“Investors and governments are looking for practical ways to deploy capital in emerging markets, the growth markets of the future, despite global insecurity and increasingly constrained public resources,” said Ben Broché, CPI’s US director. “The Lab’s portfolio shows that well-designed financial structures can help bridge that gap and mobilise private investment at scale.”

Bloomberg Philanthropies, the UN Development Programme, and the governments of Canada, Germany, and the UK fund the Lab’s 2026 programmes. Climate Policy Initiative serves as the Secretariat and analytical provider.
