A new wind generation record

On 5 December at 5:30pm, wind generated 24GW of electricity, beating the record of 23GW set less than a month ago on 11 November.

NESO has released the figures, showing that at the time, wind was providing 47.4 per cent of electricity.

The new record, an exact 23,825MW, adds to the march of renewable, now supplying approximately 60 per cent of Britain’s electricity, up from a mere 3 per cent a quarter of a century ago.

Nuclear supplied 7.1 per cent during the period, biomass 6 per cent, interconnectors 5.9 per cent, storage 1.3 per cent and hydro 1.2 per cent, whilst gas still contributed 28.2 per cent.
