Tillbridge Solar farm near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire has been approved by DESNZ, despite opposition by Lincolnshire County Council and by the district councils.
The project, a joint venture between Tribus Clean Energy and Recurrent Energy, will cover about 3,000 acres when complete, making it larger than any other solar farm in Britain, and will be sited near three other solar farms that have been approved or seeking approval.
The new solar farm will be located on the land to the south of Harpswell Lane (A631), to the west of Middle Street (B1398) and largely to the north of Kexby Road and to the east of Springthorpe. The solar farm would connect to the national grid via underground cables connecting to National Grid's Cottam substation located approximately sixteen kilometres to the south-west of the solar farm site.
The scheme consists of a generating station with an anticipated capacity in excess of 50MW, comprising ground mounted solar arrays, with associated development comprising energy storage, grid connection infrastructure and other associated development for the construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of the solar farm.
